Gloomhaven personal quest

Personal quest on a lost scenario. Do you gain progress on your personal quest when you lose the scenario? We have the quest to kill 20 elites, if one player killed one but we lost the scenario does it still count? As long as it's not a ' complete x [eg] Swamp scenarios' PQ you're fine. Yes you still gain progress.

"Two other characters have to actually retire in the presence of the character with the PQ - he has to be at Gloomhaven when they do."
